Where Do I Write From?

I commenced writing ‘Billy Houston Rags to Riches’ in the first week of January 2018 whilst staying at Lamai Beach, Koh Samui in Thailand.

I like to be staying on the beach, somewhere with a nice water view when I’m writing. I’m fortunate that my house in Noosa, Australia is right on the water with its own white sandy beach.

When in Noosa I tend to sit outside at my outdoor table with a view of the water and start writing. Or I’ll take my laptop and sit in my favourite green chair on the sand next to my jetty.

Choeng Mon, Lamai, and Chaweng at Koh Samui along with Kata and Kamala in Phuket, Thailand are some of my favourite locations to write from. All these places have beautiful beaches I can walk along.

Walking along the beach is my creative time when I build the story line and characters in my novel. I think it’s the feel of soft sand under my feet, the sound of the waves and the general ambience of the beach that aid my creative thought process.

When I’m in front of my laptop at any of these locations I tend to go in a zone, my mind totally focused on writing and oblivious to anything happening around me.

Early morning is my best time to write after a one hour walk along the beach. I’ll tend to write for anywhere between 2 to 4 hours depending on my mood. I will always have a couple more walks along the beach during the afternoon visualising the plot and story line for my book.

My second book, ‘Billy Houston Fall from Grace’, the sequel to ‘Billy Houston Rags to Riches’ was written whilst living in a house in a small, idyllic beachside village in Phuket. The house has a beautiful deck overlooking the ocean.
