While the saga is fiction, several defining elements are drawn from lived experience.

Early in the series, Billy survives a catastrophic car accident that kills a close friend and leaves him permanently marked. That foundation is real. As a university student, I was a passenger in a crash that took the life of a longtime school mate and left me with severe facial injuries requiring full reconstruction.

In Book One, Billy experiences an armed holdup that permanently alters his understanding of risk and control. That scene is also grounded in experience.

Beyond those events, the business environments in the series are informed by decades spent building ventures across accounting, financial services, consumer brands, and technology platforms.

The international settings — America, Australia, Thailand, Singapore, Cambodia, Hong Kong, and the Mediterranean — reflect places I have lived in or spent time experiencing firsthand. I have lived in Australia and Thailand; the others are drawn from time spent on the ground in those regions.
